Forum set to highlight major financial issues

MANAMA: The fifth Global Financial Markets Forum (GFMF), the annual conference organised by the National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), will bring to Abu Dhabi several Arab central bankers and an array of well-known international statesmen and leaders, who will provide a comprehensive forecast and analysis of current events.

GFMF will be held on February 27 and 28, and during the conference, speakers and panelists will discuss the critical subjects of the day, including analysing post-Arab Spring environment, the growing role of the UAE in global economy and macroeconomics in 2013.

"NBAD's Global Financial Markets Forum is established as the most prestigious and coveted regional gathering of the world's influential thinkers and decision-makers and we continue on to build on its achievement in each successive years," said NBAD senior general manager of financial markets division Mahmood Al Aradi.

"This year, as in the past years, GFMF's speakers will explore the most important and critical issues impacting regional and global politics and economics."

Since 2009, GFMF has invited hundreds of attendees to share thoughts and benefit from discussions and analysis by prominent bankers, economists, investors and executives who offer insight into critical issues affecting global economy and investor sentiments.

Last year's GFMF attracted more than 700 delegates from across many countries and it featured distinguished speakers such as Paul Volcker, former chairman of the US Federal Reserve and system and economic adviser to President Barak Obama, and Axel Weber, former president of Deutsche Bundesbank, the German Central Bank and a member of European Central Bank governing council.

The 2013 GFMF will take place in the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi.
