TWO Bahrainis who were each jailed for three years for forging a visa application have launched an appeal against their convictions.
The man and woman, who both denied the charge, were convicted by the High Criminal Court on Wednesday. However, they have lodged an appeal at the Supreme Criminal Appeals Court. They reportedly stole the visa application from a pile of applications handed over to the GDNPR by a Bahraini clearing agent. He had submitted applications for five Indian labourers to work at a local construction company in March last year.
However, only four were granted. The fifth application was stolen and forged under a Bangladeshi man's name. The defendants forged the signature of the construction company's owner and sold it for BD1,200.
