 Sick note row man freed

AN unemployed man, who allegedly stormed into a doctor's office demanding a sick leave certificate, has been released from police custody on BD100 bail.

The Bahraini is standing trial at the First Lower Criminal Court for being drunk and disorderly, verbally abusing the man and attacking him.

His Bahraini co-defendant, a driver, is also standing trial for being drunk and disorderly.

The unemployed man appeared in court with his defence team, who pleaded for his release on bail.

However, his co-defendant failed to appear in court.

The unemployed man allegedly stormed into a doctor's office at Isa Town Health Centre with his friend on October 25 and demanded a sick leave certificate but the doctor refused.

The defendant is accused of throwing a chair at the doctor.

The men, both 32, were restrained by security staff after the unemployed man began swearing at the doctor.

The driver earlier told the Public Prosecution that he was drunk when he accompanied his friend.

"They had a fight over the sick leave note and he (other defendant) started shouting and throwing a chair at the doctor," he told prosecutors. Both men confessed to being drunk during police questioning, but the unemployed man denied the other charge. The court adjourned the case to December 15.
